JAY ARENSKI
Stand B51
With nearly four decades of experience, Jay has dealt in antiques and works of art from various retail premises, including George Street W1, Camden Passage, Westbourne Grove in Notting Hill in partnership with the renowned dealer Peter Petrou, and exhibitions at Olympia, Battersea, and the LAPADA fairs. He is renowned for his ability to discover diverse objects, encompassing works of art, sculpture, and paintings from numerous cultures and historical periods, spanning from antiquity to the present day, and from Europe to Rarotonga and the East.
Jay’s unique talent lies in his ability to juxtapose the wonderful, provocative, and curious, creating a relationship, almost a conversation, between the works he presents. This convergence across centuries and continents is exemplified by his recent Battersea Show where he exhibited a Nineteenth Century Swiss Black Forest Bear Carving of an Owl sitting harmoniously below a late 17th Century Limewood Carving of Orpheus Charming the Animals with his music, these both surrounded by seven Indonesian Wayang Kulit Javanese late 19th Century Shadow Puppets.
Jay views the career of an antique dealer as a romantic journey: “One can fall in love with a piece this week and then move onto another love the following week. It’s a wonderful vocation. The objects we handle tell us stories, connecting us with the past and enabling us to pass them on to people who will appreciate and love them into the future.”
Jay is very excited that his godson Tom is taking an interest in the business and is thrilled at being able to share his knowledge.
