It’s Both Nature and Nurture When it Comes to Artistry and Craftsmanship

The great symbiosis of the creative world of art and antiques is the fusing of artistry and craftsmanship. Having the artistic vision and eye for design is one thing; being able to make that dream a reality also requires the talents of the artisan.

Tour the aisles of the Berkeley Square Fair and you will see countless examples of this symbiosis in action, from beautifully hand-built furniture of the 18th century to inspirational contemporary jewellery. Equally artistic and extraordinary are the fabulous displays of flowers created by LAPADA fair partner Pulbrook & Gould, a company founded almost seventy years ago by Susan, Lady Pulbrook and Rosamund Gould, a florist trained by the legendary creative, Constance Spry. Their ambition then was to harness the joy and beauty of the English country garden and bring it to town to fill the salons of London with the reviving breath of nature.

Creativity played its part from the first: Pulbrook & Gould were not interested in simply uprooting the borders and beds and transplanting them indoors; theirs was a mission to create stylish and sophisticated displays to enhance an interior and make a statement about those who inhabited it. Style, panache, artistry and the mastering of craft have always formed the key ingredients of the perfect stand at LAPADA’s events and establishing a partnership with Pulbrook & Gould is a natural extension of this.

The artist/artisans in their case are Emmanuel and Rai, florists whose passion for their chosen profession can be appreciated in every creation.

“With a gentle touch and an eye for balance, Emmanuel crafts vibrant arrangements that evoke the essence of a country garden,” say P&G. “Each bloom is meticulously chosen to create moments of joy and remembrance for our customers. In his humble shop, Emmanuel’s passion for floristry blooms, creating a sanctuary where nature’s beauty meets heartfelt sentiment.”

Rai trained at the prestigious Judith Blacklock School of Floristry and crafts “vibrant bouquets that capture the essence of a British countryside garden. Her creations evoke a sense of natural beauty and charm.”

So, when you are making your way through the fair this October, spare some time to admire Pulbrook & Gould’s striking displays and how they complement the vitality of the stands around them.
